Red Bull continues to make all their own rules in their latest ski video

Red Bull has done it again this time combining skiing and skydiving. On Wednesday morning the company released a two-minute video of base jumper, Fred Fugen, casually falling from the sky with a parachute on his back and skis on his feet.

The energy drink company has transitioned into the action sports world and with it has helped push the boundaries on what is possible in the world of sports. Their latest video does exactly that. When Fugen pushed off the chairlift floating over 13,000 feet above the ground he became the first person to have skydived with skis and begun skiing as he landed.

Fugen is a French base jumper who is one of the best skydivers in the world. His skill was more than on display in his latest video “Sky Diving With Skis From The Ultimate Chairlift” because before his feet hit the ground he is seen flipping and spinning in the air.

This video has been somewhat in the works since 2018 and was going to be done by both Fugen and Vince Reffet who were close friends and part of the Soul Flyers together. Sadly, Reffet passed away in 2020 while training in Dubai before the project could be completed.

Fugen was determined to finish and, according to an article by Red Bull, this whole project was, “above all, a tribute to [Reffet] and mixes disciplines, very much in the spirit of the Soul Flyers.”

But it is not just the skydiving aspect that is mind-blowing but also the skiing. That is because Fugen keeps his parachute on while skiing down the mountains of La Clusaz in the French Alps. This type of skiing is called speedriding and Fugen uses the parachute to guide him as he skis off massive cliffs and flies between the trees.

This video by Red Bull is unique, but the mix of creative genius and gnarly action has been a key aspect of many video projects. In November, Red Bull and Markus Eder released what is arguably the greatest skiing video in history in “Markus Eder’s The Ultimate Run.” This was a project that Eder had been working on for two years and again pushed the boundaries of what could be done.

Then in December, another innovative video was released by Red Bull. This time snowboarder Clemens Millauer flipped the mountain upside down and with the use of a helicopter and snowmobile rode from the bottom to the top. This video was crazy to watch as it showed Millauer doing all sorts of tricks in ways that have never been done before including riding up a log and doing a backflip through what appears to be a wood chopping site.

A few years ago Candide Thovex, one of the most creative skiers ever, teamed up with Audi to produce a series called “Ski the World” which had him skiing on everything except snow. He shredded down the Great Wall of China, on waves in Wales, and through the dirt-covered Centuripe in Italy. Thovex was one of the first people to test the limits of what could be done on skis, but Red Bull has taken the creativity and ran with it.

Red Bull has opened the eyes of what can be done not only in skiing but in all action sports. Every week there seems to be a new insane video of someone doing something that has never been seen before, whether it be kayaking down a snow-covered mountain or racing a Formula 1 car on ice. The company really seems to embrace the idea that nothing is impossible and that is shown in their videos.
