Ravens legend, Ray Lewis plans to watch film with linebacker Roquan Smith this offseason
At the Pro Bowl, Ray Lewis said that he and Roquan Smith will be working together this offseason and watching film, according to the Baltimore Ravens’ Twitter.
Lewis spent 17 seasons with the Ravens and played 228 games across his lengthy career. He made 12 Pro Bowls and was first-team All-Pro eight times. Lewis’ trophy cabinet also holds two Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2000 and 2003, alongside a pair of Super Bowls victories, one in 2001 and the other in 2013.
“Now when I’m watching him, I’m saying, ‘How can I help him get better?’ This offseason, we’re really going to sit down and go through film, so I can teach him little things,” Lewis said, via Ryan Mink and Baltimore Ravens Twitter.
The Miami Hurricanes alumni is undoubtedly one of the best ever at his position in league history. With that being said, getting praise from the legend is a big compliment. At the Pro Bowl, Lewis gave Smith a ton of praise and wants to help the young All-Pro linebacker. Smith was selected to the All-Pro first team in 2022 after making the second team in 2020 and 2021.
“Roquan has that type of brain. It’s a leader, but it’s also a servant – a person that’s willing to learn everything to get everybody to see it together,” Lewis said, via Ryan Mink and Baltimore Ravens Twitter. “Roquan, if he takes his game and just takes one more step up, I just think he could be freaking phenomenal.”
Smith joined the Ravens this year after a trade from the Chicago Bears before the trade deadline. He instantly made an impact for the Ravens as they allowed the second-fewest points in the league since his arrival.
“I know it’s him in his first year getting comfortable with the guys. Him being able to take that next step of leadership and being able to get everybody playing on one shoestring, I think that’s why he can really improve,” Lewis said, via Ryan Mink and Baltimore Ravens Twitter.
