Brendan Leipsic’s Instagram was deleted on Wednesday after a number of private group chat messages were leaked to Twitter and Reddit in which he called teammates ‘losers’, took a swipe at Lauren Kyle (Connor McDavid’s girlfriend) and called another former teammate’s wife ‘fat’.
Leipsic, a fourth-liner with the Washington Capitals, called Meaghan Loveday (wife of former Vancouver Canuck teammate Tanner Pearson) ‘fat’ in one of the released messages after a picture of her holding their young son circulated. Loveday was holding their son Tucker against the glass while Pearson was warming up so he could see his dad on the ice.
He also had a go at Lauren Kyle, who is currently dating Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid, saying she had ‘greasy knees’ in relation to their Halloween photo where she dressed up as Cindy Lou Hoo to McDavid’s The Grinch.
Leipsic released a statement on Wednesday saying:
“Yesterday my friend’s Instagram account was hacked and an individual circulated images that are representative of private conversations I was a part of. I fully recognize how inappropriate and offensive these comments are and sincerely apologize to everyone for my actions. I am committed to becoming a better person by taking time to determine how to move forward in an accountable, meaningful way. I am truly sorry.”
The Capitals also responded with:
“We are aware of the unacceptable and offensive comments made by Brendan Leipsic in a private conversation on social media. We will handle this matter internally.”
Leipsic’s contract with the Capitals is up this summer, but you have to wish that he remains in the NHL just a little while longer so Tanner Pearson can beat the living shit out of him. I certainly don’t think Nic Dowd or Garnet Hathaway will be too eager to defend him after he called them ‘losers’.
