The Next Step Drew Allar Should Take Might Surprise You

The College Football community seems to be split on Penn State’s Drew Allar. Some believe he has future first-overall pick potential, and we have some here at Vendetta who believe he’s a bum. I, at least right now, am in the former’s camp. I think that Allar has limitless upside, and even with a better 2024 than he had in 2023, some might still be out on him, especially after last night’s Orange Bowl loss to Notre Dame (look for notes? Click here).

But what does the path forward look like for Allar? He’s already announced he would be returning for his Senior season at Penn State. What if I told you that isn’t his best option…

No, I am not saying that Drew Allar should declare for the 2025 NFL Draft. While I do believe he could be taken pretty highly, I don’t believe he is ready yet for the NFL. If anything he’s a year away from being a year away. So what choice does that leave?

Transferring.

Yes, I believe that if Allar really wants to develop and establish himself as a no-doubt top quarterback prospect, he has to get out of Penn State to a place where there’s talent on the outside. Penn State had a dynamic duo at running back in Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, both are NFL bound. He had an elite-producing tight end in Tyler Warren, he’s NFL-bound. This Penn State team has ZERO talent at wide receiver, and no one is coming in to change that. His receivers accounted for zero receptions last night. The Notre Dame secondary shut that down fast.

Tyler Warren led Penn State with 104 receptions, the next closest player was the top wide receiver, Harrison Wallace III, with 46 receptions. The top two wide receivers combined for 67 receptions. That can’t happen. It speaks more to the lack of talent that James Franklin has brought in for his talented quarterback. There are a handful of top-end programs that could use someone like Allar, and I guarantee their weapons outside are worlds better.

The two teams that come to mind are Georgia and Ohio State. But Garrett, didn’t Georgia just lose Carson Beck and lead FBS in drops? Yes. But Kirby Smart is quickly fixing that by bringing in Zachariah Branch and Noah Thomas. Say what you will about Gunner Stockton, but Allar is simply better. For Ohio State, Devin Brown might stink and Julian Sayin isn’t ready. Allar would easily come in and be the starter. Weapons? Try Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate on for size. A pair of freshmen ready to go at running back. Defense always stacked. Can’t get much better than Ohio State.

Drew Allar would be wise to transfer out of Penn State to a better coaching staff and a cast of weapons around him. Penn State is getting depleted this off-season, and if he really wants to be taken seriously, he would set himself up for success by skipping town.
