After a terrible tenure with the New York Giants, Kenny Golladay has been released
Finally! The Kenny Golladay experiment is over for the Giants. On the first day of the league year, which is March 15th, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter.
With letting Golladay go on March 15th, the New York Giants will save $6.7 million on their salary cap. If the Giants released him before the first day of the league year, they would obtain $14.7 million in dead cap.
In his time as a Giant, there is one word to describe Golladay’s play: Terrible. Golladay may have had one of the worst contracts in NFL history. In 2021, Golladay signed a four year $72 million deal with the Giants after a successful season with the Lions. Golladay had the largest cap hit of any receiver in the NFL last season with $21.4 million. In his season, he had six catches for 81 yards, and one touchdown.
With his two seasons with the Giants, he played 26 games. In those 26 games, Golladay caught 43 balls for only a measly 602 receiving yards and only one touchdown. Also, he was targeted 93 times; he missed 50 more potential catches.
The Giants struggled all season long trying to find receivers. Their leading receiver was Darius Slayton. In 2023, Slayton caught 46 balls for 724 yards, and two touchdowns. New York hasn’t had a 1,000 yard receiver since 2018 when Odell Beckham Jr. was with them in his last season with the team.
Finally, as for the Giants fans, I feel like I can speak for all of them saying that they’re glad to have Golladay gone. He was toxic, as it didn’t seem like he wanted to be there. He didn’t want to practice, didn’t want to play, or even catch balls.
