Myles Turner: “I wanted to be here in Indy” after his extension

The NBA is nearing the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, February 9. One player that is always in trade rumors and NBA deadline headlines around this time is Pacer’s center, Myles Turner. However, after multiple seasons of uncertainty surrounding his situation with the Indiana Pacers, he received a new deal. The Pacers extended Turner for two more years through the 2024-2025 season for around 60 million in total after renegotiating this season’s contract.

This was pretty big news for this mostly quiet NBA trade deadline. Turner appeared to be happy with the deal as he shared his thoughts on his new extension.

“Definitely there’s a sense of relief knowing there’s some security and you can just play the game.”

This has to be extremely huge for Turner as it can get annoying and distracting to always be uncertain about his future.

“It (the trade rumors) is something I’ve been through my entire career, But I wanted to be here in Indy.”

(Myles Turner)

This news should be exciting for Pacers fans as Myles Turner was having the best year of his career. This season Turner is averaging 17.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks. Also, he is shooting a career-high 54% on field goals and 39% from the three-point line. The core of point guard Tyrese Haliburton, center Myles Turner, and rookie Bennedict Mathurin will now have a couple more years to build together.

The Pacers’ Going Forward

The Indiana Pacers are currently 24-28 which is the 11th seed in the East. They started the season hot but have begun to struggle as of late. The Pacers went 4-11 in January and they have found themselves out of the play-in game.

The absence of Haliburton has truly destroyed the momentum that Indiana had this season. However, Myles Turner has looked impressive taking control of the team while Haliburton is injured. If the Pacers want to make the playoffs they will need to be at full strength and they will fantastic play from their core.
