Myles Gaskin Somehow Stole The Dolphins RB Job
Before the start of the 2020 season, the Dolphins expected to enter the season with a running back committee that included Jordan Howard and Matt Breida. Miami signed Howard to a two-year, $10 million contract and sent a fifth-round pick to San Francisco for Breida. Despite all that, neither one of them has the starting job.
Somehow, someway, Myles Gaskin is THE man for Miami. Gaskin was drafted in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft and recorded 133 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown in seven games his rookie year. It wasn’t a super memorable rookie season.
Year two has been a different story for the former Washington product. Gaskin leads the team in carries (16), yards (86), and YPC (5.4). As the season goes along, Gaskin is only going to get more of an opportunity. More impressive to note, Gaskin is second in the team in receptions (10). He’s added incredible value in the passing game.
Gaskin is getting more run than expected for two reasons.
A: Matt Breida is always hurt. Even when he’s healthy, I can promise you he’s dealing with something.
B: Jordan Howard has been HORRIBLE!
Every running back has a ticking clock. Once that clock runs out, game over. It seems like father time has taken Howard out already. Howard hasn’t just been bad; he’s been frankly unplayable. On the season, the former Bears and Eagles RB has 11 yards on 13 carries.
Howard has been able to salvage fantasy value scoring in back to back weeks. Still, how long until the Dolphins start to reward Gaskin with those touchdowns. If you haven’t done so already, it’s probably time to jump off the Howard ship.
If you’re in a keeper league, and you need a running back for fantasy, pick up Gaskin. If he continues to produce, the volume is only going to increase.
