Mookie Betts Is Getting Hot And The Baseball World Should Be Scared
The 2021 season seemed to be a forgetful one for Los Angeles Dodgers superstar outfielder Mookie Betts. The 2018 Most Valuable Player and 2020’s Runner Up was struggling to have his batting average stay above .250. This is remarkably uncharacteristic of Mookie, as his career slash line sits at .291/.373/.518.
Change is afoot though. Betts in the first half was nursing a sore shoulder, ultimately affecting his productive swing. It seems to be getting and better. In the month of July, he is slashing .327/.382/.551 which is considerably more Mookie-like.
His power numbers are arising too. He has three home runs in his last six ball games. On top of that, he also rose his season batting average from .245 on July 9th to .261 on July 16th. These trends are small but Mookie just flat out seems to be comfortable at the plate and just seeing the ball well.
The baseball world should indeed be nervous. Simply put, when Mookie plays, the Dodgers win games. Spanning from 2020, the Dodgers are 90-45 when he appears. Even more troublesome for everyone else is the return of star shortstop Corey Seager who was out due to a broken hand. He’s set to be back next week.
This would complete a hungry Dodgers lineup that is fighting with San Francisco for first place in the National League West. The team is looking hot and healthy at the right time and Mookie heating up is the difference.
