Mike Brown wants Kings to stop ‘begging for fouls’ vs. Warriors
After Sunday’s 126-125 loss to the Golden State Warriors, Kings head coach Mike Brown commented on his team’s reliance on whistles. Brown noted that it has become a bad habit for his young Sacramento Kings squad.
“All of our guys are driving into two, sometimes three, guys in transition and begging for a call,” Brown said via NBC Sports California, via Yardbreaker. “We can’t continue to do that. It’s a great learning experience for our guys to see because we wasted a ton of possessions in transition driving and just throwing up some crazy stuff.”
This series, the Kings have shown their inexperience in playoff basketball. In Game 4, there was a noticeable amount of fast possessions where players like Malik Monk and rookie sharpshooter Keegan Murray forced shots looking for calls from the officials.
Brown made it clear that they will not beat the Warriors this series if they continue to beg for whistles. Those fast missed shots and complaining will only dig them an even bigger hole, as the Warriors have dropped the last two games in the series.
“If I’m a referee, the shots that we’re taking at the rim in transition, I ain’t calling neither, cause you’re begging for a foul,” Brown said, via Yardbreaker. “You can’t drive to the rim and beg for a foul every single possession. They run it back at us because they have a numbers advantage.”
The Kings will look to get back on track on Wednesday as the team makes its return to the Golden 1 Center, with the series locked up at two games apiece. Tip-off for Game 5 is at 10:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, April 26.
