Max Holloway Is Back! Holloway vs. Rodriguez Preview and Prediction

Max Holloway is back in the octagon. Thank God! Holloway’s next fight has been announced, and it will be against fellow featherweight contender Yair Rodriguez. The fight is rumored to be taking place on July 17th at a UFC fight night event.

Max “Blessed” Holloway

One word that comes to mind when you think of Max Holloway is savage. The dude is a straight-up killer inside the octagon. In case you live under a rock and did not see his last fight against Calvin Kattar, let me break it down for you. It was a masterclass in boxing. Max Holloway threw almost eight hundred, yes you read that correctly, 800, strikes. That is not even the crazy part. Holloway landed 60% of the shots he threw. He broke his own record for most strikes thrown in a fight. Holloway is also the all-time significant strikes and total strikes leader in UFC history. The dude is an absolute beast.

The Matchup

Alright, let’s break down the match-up. Yair Rodriguez comes in as the #3 ranked UFC featherweight, with a career record of 13 wins and 2 losses. He is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Jeremy Stephens in 2019. In that fight, Rodriguez was the more active fighter, landing more total strikes than his counterpart. Rodriguez has some decent power in his hands, but will it be enough to take out Blessed? No. Even though he was active against Stephens, he only threw 213 strikes. Holloway nearly quadrupled that number in his last fight. Unless Rodriguez can get the fight on the ground, I do not see how he can win this fight. I predict a unanimous decision victory for Holloway by scores of 50-44, 50-44, 50-45.

Every time Max Holloway steps into the cage, there are fireworks, and do not expect anything different on July 17th.
