The Patriots Mid-West continues to add Patriots. Head coach Matt Patricia already added former Patriot legend Danny Amendola earlier this offseason. Now the Lions have added a big boy up front to help pressure the quarterback. Trey Flowers has signed a 5-year deal with the Lions.
Flowers, 25, is a monster. That’s the best way to describe him. In 2018, Flowers was the 2nd most productive rusher in the NFL racking up 78 quarterback pressures. That ranked just behind Dee Ford. That’s it. The expected contract is supposed to come in around $17 million per year. That’s way too rich for any player that Pats will match for.
The Patriots got the most out of the former 4th round pick from Arkansas. After a Super Bowl title and 7.5 sack season, the Pats will turn around and trade for Michael Bennett who will cost half the price and come with even more sack production. Classic Patriots. New England will also collect another 2020 Third round comp pick. The other will come from Trent Brown departing for Oakland.
Detroit adds to what is a pretty impressive defensive line. DeShawn Hand and A’Shawn Robinson is already a good one-two punch. Detroit also has Snacks Harrison to eat up the middle. All of a sudden, the Lions have a really nasty defensive line. Ziggy Ansah still stands out in the free agent market and the Lions could still be in the market for another edge rusher.
Flowers was probably the best free agent on the market. Any time you sign a player from the Pats, you have to worry but Flowers seems like an exception. New England won the Super Bowl with about 2 good players. Trey Flowers is one of them.
