A Letter to Blind Supporters of Authority

Where is your humanity? What part of your brain makes you think it’s okay for people to be harmed by those in power? Your lack of empathy is what is wrong with the world. You all need to take a deep look at yourselves, and if you don’t see a problem, you are the problem. Whatever you think you’re accomplishing by blindly siding with authority, you aren’t. You aren’t a saint or a patriot, you’re a coward.

The Pattern of Corruption

Ever since we were children, we’ve been taught to respect the people older than us. Our parents and guardians always told us to shut up and listen to those with authority. As a black man living in North America, there was one person I was told to respect more than any other; the police. Most 9 year old’s were learning multiplication or the birds and the bees for the first time. When I was 9 years old, I witnessed the abuse of power by someone in authority for the first time. I watched George Zimmerman kill 17-year old Trayvon Martin in cold blood, and get away with it. I had not realized that day that there were people with power who did not deserve it, I had to watch several people die over the same things year after year to understand.

8 Years Later

8 years later, nothing has changed. Jacob Blake was shot 7 times in the back in front of his children. So, an innocent man was shot and is near death, yet people still try to find a way to justify the shooting. It’s important to remember that the people in power are just that; people. They make mistakes just like everyone else. I’m sure that you can imagine my frustration however, when these mistakes result in the deaths of innocent black people. You all need to recognize that the people in authority positions are abusing their power. Now it’s time to call them out; nobody’s perfect or above criticism so they should be treated as such. Kill the bullshit fantasy you have of law enforcement and see them for what they are. A corrupt system that is full of power hungry people and those who do nothing about it.

Check Yourselves

Now once more I ask those who blindly support the police. Where is your heart? It’s sure as hell not with the thousands of victims of police brutality. It isn’t with the authority figures who try to combat the corruption in their workplace. Remember this, they don’t give a fuck about you, they only care about themselves. Defund the police and hold them accountable for their misuse of power.
