Laremy Tunsil Resets Tackle Market
Laremy Tunsil is getting paid once again. The stalwart left tackle agreed to a three-year, $75 million extension with the Houston Texans. The biggest name in Houston also gets one of the biggest contracts in NFL history. Ian Rappoport had the news of the deal and its guarantees below:
Lamar Jackson should take notes. Tunsil had no agent and got a historic payday. The cherry on top of that is that Tunsil has no agent fees to pay. Up to $75 million in cold, hard, tax-free cash all to himself. And his play in 2022 deserved it. Despite going 3-13-1 this season, Tunsil made the Pro Bowl, which is his third in four years with the Texans. Quite a change of events after his infamous gas mask video that leaked on draft night in 2016. It’s already been a very busy Sunday morning in Houston after they also dealt Brandin Cooks to the Dallas Cowboys.
Who’s Next?
With Tunsil’s deal in place, a number of left tackles across the league are probably licking their lips. One of which being Andrew Thomas of the New York Giants. The former Georgia standout finally had his breakout year in the Meadowlands. Despite missing out on the Pro Bowl, Thomas made second-team All Pro in only his third year. Joe Schoen and company are gonna have to pay up sooner rather than later. We just saw Orlando Brown get paid at a very team-friendly rate in Cincinnati. Penei Sewell is also probably loving this news.
Laremy Tunsil has gotten the bag for a second time. The tackle market is going to be one to watch for a few years now, as there are many young and talented guys who are looking forward to a payday.
