Coming into the year, there should have been no doubt that LaMelo Ball is going to be an extraordinary passer in this league. I mean even Lonzo Ball, his brother, was a great passer coming out of college. The passing ability just runs in the family, unless your LiAngelo Ball, his niche pertains to stealing more or less. Anyways, LaMelo Ball as a rookie already has exceptional vision. While some worry about his shooting ability like his brother Zo, I would say he’s already a better offensive player than Zo.
“So what? LaMelo is a great passer, but whoop.” No, I think he’s already a top 10 passer in this league. There’s not a lot of stats that show that, it’s mostly just watching and using the eye test. He has some of the flashiest passes in the NBA. He has a knack for knowing where his teammates are and being able to feed them. Sure, LaMelo Ball may not have the best jumper or defensive ability, but don’t take away his ability to pass the ball. He’s already one of the best at passing and in vision, don’t sleep. Plus, are we going to acknowledge that Ben Simmons has no jump shot either and is still regarded as one of the best PGs in the NBA? Sure, having a jump shot helps with that standard but it’s not impossible.
I actually worry about LaMelo’s defensive ability more than I do about his shooting. He has had a couple of bad games shooting and some solid shooting games shooting. Defense is all about effort, maybe he can develop that later on. LaMelo Ball can flat out pass the ball and look like one of the best doing it. Put some respect on his name. He’ll be the best Ball brother and will have a great NBA career.
