KANYE WEST ANNOUNCED “DONDA”: WHAT TO EXPECT???

In the past year, Kanye West has hinted at his next album, which was previously named Jesus is King part 2. A year later, Kanye changed the name to something equally as important to him. This album will be his tenth album and named after his late mother Donda, who passed away in 2007. The artwork was created by French artist Louise Bourgeois, who lost her mother at a young age. According to Genius, the original piece is titled “Les têtes bleues et les femmes rouges“, meaning “The Blue Heads and the Red Women”. I think the curation of this album is very meaningful and creative, but what does Kanye have in store for the listener?

According to Genius, the features list may include the likes of Tyler the Creator, Baby Keem, Playboi Carti, Vory, Ty Dolla Sign, Lil Baby, Travis Scott, and many other prominent artists. This is an exceptional lineup because of its versatility in each person. I think this project will bring many topics of religion and rap together. I feel as if this project will be more of a Christian rap album, implementing topics of Christianity, rather than full rap albums that Kanye is known for. I also hope that he discusses some of the major topics that can be seen throughout his older work and his late mother Donda. With a lineup as powerful as this one, I expect greatness from them.

KANYE WEST “DONDA”: PRODUCTION

Kanye West has always pushed the envelope within his production. I believe this album will do the same. I think this album will have more samples and production credits from other prominent producers. This includes, but not limited to the great producer Mike Dean, who has work with many great artists such as Travis Scott. I hope to see some of the same producers from Jesus Is King and other previous works. During Game 6 of NBA commercial, a Beats commercial played which featured Sha’carri Richardson and a snippet of West’s new song “No Child Left Behind”. The song was amazing, and I think it sets the tone for what Kanye West has planned.

OVERALL SOUND

Because this is Kanye’s 10th studio album, I think this album will be mutually exclusive to the other 9. All of Kanye’s previous projects have never sonically sounded like the other. They all are unique and can stand alone. I believe this project will do the same. I appreciate West’s efforts towards pushing the boundaries in rap and religion, and I think this album will again do the same. I also like how he utilizes his talents to guide newer artists and producers in music because he can effortlessly do both. I like how he referenced his mother, and I think he should have created a project named after her shortly after passing. Donda has played such a significant part in his career. Will Kanye live up to the hype of the album??? We will have to wait, as it is planned to be streamed tonight on Apple Music!
