Jrue Holiday is the best defender in the NBA. Those are Tyrese Haliburton’s words, not mine. As the 2024 NBA Finals get set to ramp up, Jrue Holiday is going to be tasked with guarding the likes of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. How can you not be fired up about these finals? Just so many storylines here.
During media day, Jrue was asked about his plan for guarding Kyrie. The answer is just hilarious.
This man really said pray.
Obviously, Jrue is being coy and doesn’t want to give anything away. He’s also never going to be the type of guy that sticks his foot in his mouth. Jrue has always been a model citizen on and off the court. If he has a plan, he’s never going to tell you.
This was the rest of the quote from Holiday, by the way, just in case you didn’t see it.
“Pray,” Holiday said with a slight grin. “I think it’s just familiarity, just, I think, knowing each other’s game, doing your best to stay in front of him — trying to take away the things that’ll probably hurt you the most. And then, probably most of all, having help. Him being able to see multiple guys on the court, making it look like it’s crowded, making shots as tough as possible even though he’s a tough shot-maker.”
Holiday has been a great fit with the Celtics and now he’s locked up long term after signing a contract extension recently. If Boston wants to raise Banner 18, Holiday is going to have a lot to do with it.
