This is news I did not think I would ever see again. Jordan Reed is back in the NFL. After suffering numerous injuries including a ton of scary concussions, Reed is not done playing apparently. The San Francisco 49ers have signed Reed to a one year contract.
Reed, 30, has never played a full 16 game season. That’s the biggest concern here. Reed did not play at in 2019 and has always been someone I refused to draft in fantasy. The man is just not reliable. It’s hard to imagine he will last long for San Fran. Charlie Woerner was drafted in the 6th round this year out of Georgia. Woerner will likely be the second tight end behind George Kittle if Reed gets hurt again.
If things do pan out, there probably isn’t a better one – two punch at tight end. San Francisco adds a big time weapon. One they actually really needed. Deebo Samuel broke his foot and will likely miss a few weeks. Emmanuel Sanders also departed via free agency. Adding a second tight end like Reed is a huge boost. Do you really trust Brandon Aiyuk to be a number one wide receiver from the jump? Reed could really impact this offense.
Obviously, Kyle Shanahan has worked with Reed in the past. Shanahan coached him in Washington with his dad. At the end of the day, maybe the talent is just worth taking a chance on. Reed’s best season came back in 2014 where he posted 942 yards and 11 touchdowns in 14 games. Time will tell how this one works out.
