The New York Yankees are on a historic pace. The Yankees are 58-21 and somehow found a way to win that many games with dog shit Joey Gallo in the lineup every day. If it somehow weren’t obvious before, it is now. Joey Gallo sucks and the Yankees are officially looking to dump his terrible ass elsewhere.
When the Yankees first traded for Gallo, it was hard to like the move but it was understandable considering the Yankees didn’t give up a ton of notable prospects in the deal. Looking back at it a year later, the Yankees got totally hosed.
Josh Smith just got promoted to the big leagues. His pure ceiling remains to be seen but looks like a capable major league infielder for years to come. Ezequiel Duran is now a top 100 prospect and was also just promoted to the Rangers big league roster. We’ll see on Trevor Hauver and Glenn Otto. Otto is in the Rangers rotation but hasn’t performed like a capable starter yet.
Regardless, it’s looking like a bad deal for the Yankees. Even if one of them pops, it was still a awful decision. The real question is who thought this was going to work? Remember that time Greg Amsinger compared him to Jason Giambi? I think I threw up inside after hysterically laughing to myself for the past five minutes.
In 65 games through the 2022 MLB Season, Gallo sports a batting line of .168/.281/.330. I just can’t why the Yankees are surprised? The guy hasn’t hit above .200 since 2019 and was always trending in the wrong direction becoming more and more desperate looking for the home run ball. The guy is a one trick pony and his one trick isn’t worth watching him strike out over 200 times every year. You don’t want those guys on your roster…
Joel Sherman is more locked in with the Yankees than anybody. Anything he says even if it’s a minor note, you have to take it seriously. He had this to say in regards to Gallo.
“Neither team is likely to overly rely on internal solutions. There is some push for the Mets to summon top prospect Francisco Alvarez to be at least the DH. But philosophically, general manager Billy Eppler is hesitant to call up a player straight from Double-A, especially one who is doing very well (particularly for his age), but not dominating, and one he is concerned will have a savior tag applied during a pennant race. The Yankees are more likely to use Miguel Andujar or Estevan Florial (both performing well at Triple-A) to help find a trade replacement for Joey Gallo, whose chances of being a Yankee on Aug. 3 are slim.”
If Cashman does anything prior to the 2022 MLB Trade Deadline, it’s finding a replacement on the roster for Joey Gallo. It’s not just about finding a replacement for Gallo. It’s about the fact that Gallo is basically unplayable and he’s keeping guys like Miguel Andujar and Estevan Florial off the big league roster who could further increase their value. When you have cancers on the roster they tank you in more ways than one.
For the record, I have no fear of this Yankees team. None. If they actually find a BIG upgrade over Gallo, then maybe I’ll start to sweat a little.
