The Jim Harbaugh era at Michigan has been disappointing so far. Four years at Michigan and Jim Harbaugh still hasn’t won a Big 10 title. Urban Meyer is now gone and Harbaugh’s pressure to win the conference is really starting to heat up. While Harbaugh is enjoying the offseason, he wants to bring something else to Michigan besides for Big 10 titles.
Harbaugh recently came out and said that he would like a statue of Tom Brady at the University of Michigan:
“I think it’s time, don’t you, for a Tom Brady statue to be built right here,” Harbaugh said, via CFT. “Right in front of Schembechler Hall, or do you put it in the stadium? Where do you put the Tom Brady statue?”
I have a ton of respect for Tom Brady. I really do, but this is ridiculous. Tom Brady was a 6th round pick. The reason he was a 6th round pick is because he really wasn’t that good at Michigan. Tom Brady battled with Drew Henson for the starting job. He never threw for more than 16 touchdowns in a season at Michigan! Does that sound like a guy that needs a statue?
Hell, Harbaugh has a better case to land a statue at Michigan. He played quarterback there and was very successful. Harbaugh was actually picked in the first round for a reason. Success at Michigan and success in the NFL doesn’t really correlate in this instance. Harbaugh won the Big 10 MVP in 1986.
“You’re synonymous now with Babe Ruth, with Michael Jordan. The university he attended should build a statue,” Harbaugh added.
I just don’t agree. Put a statue in front of Foxboro. That’s cool with me. Putting one at Michigan doesn’t feel right. Should Mario Manningham get one too because of a catch he made in the Super Bowl? Absolutely ridiculous.
