Ivan Provorov: Loyal To Flyers?
Will the Flyers trade Ivan Provorov when the NHL Trade Deadline rolls around? That seems like a big maybe. Philadelphia may be shopping Provorov but that doesn’t mean that he won’t play his tail off in the mean time. If you ask Provorov, he’s a loyal player and will continue to do his job for as long as he’s able to rock the black and orange sweater.
“Their job is to talk, my job is to play,” Provorov said after practice Wednesday, according to Philly Hockey Now’s Sam Carchidi. “I’m not changing anything about my preparation or my thinking. I’m here to play and compete every game.”
He added, “I’ve been here for seven years. It’s the team I got drafted by. I’m a loyal player. I want to do my best every game and help the team win any way I can.”
Provorov, 25, has two goals and 13 assists in 42 games this season while ranking second on the team in average ice time (23:10). The Flyers have failed to find Provorov a perfect partner but again as I illustrated in the last post, maybe he’s just not that good…
The trade deadline is on March 3rd. It remains to be seen how aggressive Chuck Fletcher will get in hopes of rebuilding this roster. Either way, it’s something that has to be done. When Johnny Gaudreau chooses you but you ruin it by having Rasmus Ristolainen on the books instead, it’s time to turn the page and start over. Trading Ivan Provorov would go a long way toward building assets for a future run down the line.
