ish's picks and plays

Ish’s Picks and Plays have been solid for a few weeks, but today’s slate is jammed with coin flip games, though I am more confident in my Phoenix and Montreal picks.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets

Tonight is a must-win game for Milwaukee after having their worst shooting game of the season in Game 1, going 6-30 from three-point range. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a good game but Kris Middleton and Jrue Holiday are going to have to step up if the Bucks want to even the series up. Milwaukee was projected to score at least 15 more points than they did on 3-pointers, but they fell short, just as they did against Miami in Game 1 of their previous series. Like that series, however, I expect them to bounce back tonight and close Game 2 out with a win. The Bucks also outrebounded Brooklyn big-time, including 15 offensive rebounds against six from the Nets. Public money is on Brooklyn but Vegas is backing Milwaukee. When in doubt, fade the public, but if Milwaukee loses this game, the series is over.

PICK: AVOID. Lean Bucks, but I am not betting this.

Denver Nuggets vs Phoenix Suns

Phoenix and Denver showed out in the first round of the Playoffs, as Jokic was able to carry his team past Portland with the help of MPJ every now and then, while Phoenix took out an injury-plagued Lakers team. The Suns should beat Denver tonight, Nikola Jokic will have some size on him all game instead of being guarded by Robert Covington and Jusuf Nurkic, who was usually in foul trouble. Deandre Ayton and Frank Kaminsky will now share the role in trying to limit Jokic’s offensive production, though I am guessing Monty Williams will use man defense against Denver to limit Jokic’s assists, as stopping him from having any offensive impact at all is nearly impossible. Phoenix also has Chris Paul facilitating offense next to Devin Booker, who is playing incredibly in the Playoffs. Paul’s playoff experience could be the difference this series, and Denver has no one to throw at Booker.

PICK: Suns -5

Montreal Canadiens vs Winnipeg Jets

The Jets are done and I do not care what anyone says, as they are down 3-0 to Montreal with Game 4 in Montreal with fans. The Canadiens are now 19-0 this season when scoring 3 or more goals, and if they get the first goal again tonight, Winnipeg will be in trouble.  Mark Scheifele’s final missed game due to suspension will be served tonight and the Jets have struggled on offense since he has been missing. Montreal is the better team with the better goalie, (Carey Price is playing like he is five years younger), and I see another low-scoring game tonight. Defensive hockey is not the most fun to watch but Montreal plays it to perfection, especially against a Jets team who appears lost on offense. With the home crowd backing up Price and company, it is hard to see the Habs going down tonight.

PICK: Ish’s Picks Play Of the Night! Montreal to close this series and send Winnipeg home.

New York Islanders vs Boston Bruins

Not much on this game, the series has been tight and each game has been 50/50 so far. On their home ice, the Bruins should be able to get the job done, but during the regular season I have learned not to doubt the Islanders.

PICK: Lean Islanders for the upset win in TD Garden.
