Is The Devy Royale The Softest Sports Media Platform Out There?

This shouldn’t be groundbreaking news to anyone who is in the world of sports media, but you’re going to have people disagree with your takes. You’re going to have people talk shit to you on social media. That’s just the nature of the beast. However, it’s how you respond to it which proves what kind of human you are. I learned today that The Devy Royale employs the softest people possible.

Just take a look at that mock draft by The Devy Royale’s Christian Williams. This is a whole other issue for another time maybe, but we are focusing on how Mr. Williams responded in the face of adversity. His social media presence should make that entire site embarrassed.

Let’s talk about it.

First, we try to big league. This dude says he’s never heard of Vendetta Media so my opinion is invalid. Does this guy know he works for a site that has 2.5k followers? He has 12.1k followers after a staggering 131.2k posts?? I’m not sitting here claiming we are on the level of the big names, yet, but to big league when you yourself work at a small publication? Maybe if I grind away for god knows how many years to get absolutely nowhere, I can hold my opinion higher than others.

Also, real quick, isn’t the beauty of being in this venue getting into debates about sports? I love going through people’s tweets, finding something I either agree or disagree with, debating, and coming out the other side. Not everyone is as open-minded, I guess. Some of us have a backbone, and others don’t. I don’t know what to tell you. Mr. Williams clearly doesn’t.

What The Devy Royale should really be embarrassed about is the way Mr. Williams acted when he was responded to. Called out on big leaguing, and I got an IMMEDIATE block. Within minutes I got blocked. Charmin soft as it gets. If you can’t handle people on social media grilling you with remarks about your work and comebacks you apparently can’t handle, why be on the platform? It’s embarrassing. Maybe his account should’ve stayed suspended if he’s going to be a big coward and provide horrific College Football analysis.

But maybe the focus should be on The Devy Royale as an entire company. Putting the majority work behind a paywall is a guaranteed way to ensure you do not grow as a company. Little league stuff. Can’t make this up. One of their tiers literally says you don’t get anything extra, but you give us a free $5. What a clown show! Places like Pateron and Substack are what’s wrong with media and TDR is a prime example.

$3.50 for draft grades? Are you kidding? That shit should be free, no questions asked. Our job in this realm is to inform. Not to rob. Especially if we’re going to give terrible analysis. Draft guide last season was a whopping $15. Fantasy projections $5. Why on earth would anyone waste their hard-earned dollars to read tremendously bad draft analysis and poor fantasy outlook suggestions? You can find 25,000 places that have it for free, yet you decide from launch to make users pay. Yet, I’m sure they wonder why they have zero traction.

Yes, zero traction. 10 months they have been around, they have 374 members. Less than four members a month. Good job guys. Way to establish yourself as a premier place for draft coverage before cowering behind that paywall. Maybe, if you guys work for another ten months, you can afford to throw yourself a pizza party for the not-so-hard work you’ve put in! Maybe try having original ideas instead of poaching opinions from the big talking heads, and you might get somewhere. Go against the grain. Make yourself stand out. But no, too Charmin soft to care.

This dude doesn’t even write, that’s the confusing part. I found his Substack, speaking of which. His last post is from 1/8, but before that was May of 2022! Embarrassing! Video content is all well and good when you’re actually posting. But their YouTube channel gets out MAYBE two videos a week! Where’s the effort? Where’s the desire to be good? This group has ZERO work ethic, just want to say they work in this realm. It’s clear that The Devy Royale was founded by a group of buddies who wanted to try this out, but quickly are realizing they don’t stand a chance. Especially when you’re charmin soft.

I’ll close with this. Peep the work that Vendetta does, versus the work TDR does, and circle back. I promise you this place blows them out of the water in all facets of the draft game. Profiles, mocks, you name it. It isn’t close. Because Vendetta isn’t filled with pushover crybabies. This group, led by our Don, Trey, blows that sorry operation off the map. Maybe in another 131k tweets, this dude will be microscopically relevant. Doubtful.

Come for the king, you best not miss. You’re welcome for the free publicity. End of blog.
