Iowa QB Cade McNamara To Enter Transfer Portal

This is not a shocking development as Iowa’s season with QB Cade McNamara did not go as planned. Iowa finished with a solid 8-4 record in the 2024 season. However, the Hawkeyes offense struggled this year, especially in the passing game. Iowa had 1,580 passing yards which had them ranked as the 130th passing offense in college football. Luckily, they had a strong running game with running back Kaleb Johnson. Now, Cade McNamara will enter the transfer portal to try to find the right spot with the third team of his college football career.

McNamara finished the 2024 season with 1,017 passing yards, six touchdowns, and five interceptions. Also, he had a respectable 60.5 completion percentage in the eight games he played for the Hawkeyes this season. McNamara suffered a concussion versus Northwestern in week nine and that injury would keep him out the rest of the year. The Quarterback has had an unlucky two years at Iowa as he missed a majority of the 2023 season with a torn ACL. 

Cade McNamara will not be one of the key names in the transfer portal. However, he has played for two big programs in Michigan and Iowa so there should be interest from some schools. I think there will be interest among lower tier power four schools for a veteran quarterback. There would be even more interest among non-power four schools but I do not know if McNamara will make that big of a switch. Now, Cade McNamara will be entertaining his sixth and final year of his college football eligibility. Whatever school he chooses to transfer to will be his last chance to be a starting quarterback in his collegiate career.
