Ever since the release of GTA V in September 2013, fans have been eagerly awaiting news on another installment in the Grand Theft Auto series. The most successful entertainment product in history came out nearly 8 years ago, and people still know nothing about Rockstar Games. The developer of the series is notorious for keeping a tight lid on any information regarding their games. Usually, the first taste fans get of their releases is in the form of a trailer. GTA V’s trailer was 2 years before its release, and Red Dead Redemption 2 was a year. So, it’s not surprising that there hasn’t been any news, but it begs the question with this in mind: Is GTA 6 even close to being done?
We’ve Waited Long Enough
Here’s a crazy one for you: I was in 7th grade when GTA V was released. Now, I’m going into my junior year of college. 8 years is currently the longest gap between any Grand Theft Auto releases ever. For reference, GTA V came out 5 years after GTA IV, and GTA IV only 4 years after GTA: San Andreas. Many attribute this long waiting period due to the success of the online mode in GTA V.
As someone who has played GTA Online in the past, it drives me crazy how people continue to pour money into it. Yes, they’ve updated it plenty of times, even expanding the map in the past year, but it’s still an 8 year old game. This is why Rockstar hasn’t felt the need to put out a new title. There are going to be people who have been playing this game for 3 whole damn console generations. How they still get excited about it beats me.
Possible Release Dates
This most certainly won’t be the first time anyone is speculating on when GTA 6 will be coming out. According to techradar.com, there’s reliable information that we won’t see a release until late 2023-early 2024. This is based on Take-Two’s (Rockstar’s parent company) marketing budget for the next 5 years. In 2023, there’s a large spike in how much money they will spend marketing. This probably means exactly what we all think it means. It just sucks that we’ll have to wait another 2 years for it.
For now, we’ll have to scroll through clickbait article after clickbait article trying to find new information until there’s a trailer because that’s how it’s always been. If there’s any real new information, we’ll be sure to cover it. Stay tuned, my friends.
