There are certain things I’m confident in. There are certain things I am not confident in. Don’t ask me to change your tire. I will not succeed. NFL Draft coverage? I believe I’m the best. I’m truly convinced that the so called other “draft experts” just make shit up. If I’m not your go to draft guy, what are you doing?
Insane that two outlets are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum on a player like Andrew Thomas? What are we doing here? Don’t worry, this next one is really juicy. I tried to tell you mock draft season has gone too far. Hold on to your butts. Mock draft season officially has a math off!
I’ve either lost my mind or we have now gotten to a point in human history where math is now no longer the common language everyone can speak. Math is now up for interpretation. If only this was in place when I was still in school. I could have argued my way into some A’s in Algebra class. Hey, professor, you see… 2+2 can now equal 6. Man, if only times I was still in school during these times.
Let’s be honest. People are just making shit up when it comes to analytics. At least are doing so in football. Otherwise, there wouldn’t be two wildly different answers. I can’t say the same for baseball. They have analytics pretty figured out. We don’t have this problem in baseball. It’s why there is so much less trading now. Every GM has the same thought process and values prospects more than ever. In football, we’re still at the place where quarterbacks are not valuable and then the very next model they are a premium. It’s mock draft season and every “expert” just makes shit up.
If anybody is right here, it’s probably the PFF guys. If Tua Tagovailoa and Joe Burrow are elite level franchise quarterbacks, they should go with the first two picks. There has never been a year where a quarterback should go 4th in a redraft. I mean ever. The quarterback should go first or not in the first round at all. Let’s not give the PFF guys too much credit though, C’mon.
Let’s just agree on this. Either get on the same page when it comes to math in football or let’s agree to just throw the analytics in the garbage. The same analytics that thought Marcus Mariota was a franchise quarterback… joke. The same analytics that thought Baker Mayfield was a transformational talent… joke. All I know is the smartest mind in football doesn’t give a rip about analytics.
Do me a favor. Let’s fire all these analytical mock drafts into the sun. I’ve seen a lot of dumb things in sports coverage. This has skyrocketed up my list. When math is no longer set in stone, I’m out on whatever you’re selling.
