Greg McElroy Sucks As A Broadcaster And Shows Zero Accountability

Think of this as a live blog. I’m watching the Orange Bowl right now and I’m screaming at my TV. If you’re watching the game (my NFL Draft stock notes will be out shortly) you already know the QB play in this game has been AWFUL. Drew Allar and Riley Leonard have totally sucked from start to finish.

I’d make the argument the best performance by a quarterback in this game was by the Notre Dame back up when Leonard briefly got checked by a concussion.

Anyway… let’s set the stage really quickly because what Greg McElroy did tonight was utterly disgusting and if I were ESPN, I would fire him on the spot. I am screaming at my TV right now and have been for the last 15 minutes. I can’t believe nobody slapped the guy already.

47 seconds left. Penn State has the ball but has to drive the length of the field. They can kill the rest of the clock and go to overtime. This is what I said before the drive (and if you watched Allar all night, you know trusting him in this spot was as brain dead as it gets.

By the way, zero hindsight bias involved. We’ve been talking about the game all night in the company Slack chat. Trey doesn’t use hindsight bias. If you watched the game, there was no other path.

Compare this to what McElroy said.

Guess what happened two plays later. The first play being a run where they got the first down and could have just taken it to OT.

It’s one thing to be a total idiot and botch this. It’s another to just literally fail to acknowledge it after the fact. Took zero accountability. Didn’t once say, yeah, maybe being aggressive there was the wrong call.

Explain to me what makes McElroy worth millions of dollars to broadcast these games. This guy should be totally embarrassed and ashamed of himself. Look, we’re all human. We’re all going to screw up. But to not even acknowledge this and fail to take accountability? That’s gross and we as viewers shouldn’t be okay with his actions. Frankly, I’m still screaming about this watching the postgame because it’s that despicable.

Penn State lost the game because of this bone headed decision. James Franklin will have to answer for it after the game. McElroy should be forced to do the same. Fair is fair.
