GCW Announces They Will Join a Streaming Service
GCW, Game Changer Wrestling, made serious headlines Tuesday when the company announced it will be joining a streaming service.
Independent wrestling companies joining streaming services is quite a rare thing. While there are companies that have their shows on services, fans have to pay for each one. With GCW, it will take the traditional model of streaming services by paying a certain amount monthly and having access to every event. This is a huge deal and can pave the way for independent wrestling shows to get seen.
The company was started in 1999 and went by the name Jersey Championship Wrestling. Brett Lauderdale bought the company in 2015 and changed the name to Game Changer Wrestling. GCW is now one of the most popular independent wrestling companies to come out of New Jersey. Now, they have held events all across the world and have had some serious competitors compete in the company.
Recently, Jon Moxley wrestled in GCW, but he may be done with the company now that he signed a new deal with AEW. GCW is known for its death matches and putting on shows that you can’t see on television. They have built a cult following and now growing every day. Furthermore, with GCW getting this deal, their audience will continue to grow.
GCW on Fite+
GCW struck a deal with Fite to showcase all of their events there for a monthly price. Furthermore, GCW and Fite have worked together before, but now they will be the exclusive home of the company. GCW has been airing its events on Fite since 2018. So now fans will get access to the company’s entire catalog and every event for $4.99 a month on Fite+. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Lauderdale said that the deal was for two years, but the amount was disclosed.
Currently, every event shown on Fite prior to this is available, but the company is working on getting events prior to 2018 on the streaming service as well. This is a huge deal for GCW and independent companies everywhere. Now, fans all across the world will have access to the company’s events and library. This is hopefully the start of more independent wrestling companies getting a bigger fan base.
