Five-Star 2023 CG Simeon Wilcher Commits to UNC
Five-star junior Simeon Wilcher has committed to UNC, per Joe Tipton and On3Recruits. Wilcher chose the Tar Heels over Nebraska and UConn.
The 6-4 combo guard told ESPN that his relationship with new head coach Hubert Davis played a major role in his recruitment process.
“Coach Davis is a great human — besides being a great coach. Their plan is to guide me and help develop me to play at the next level and to try and hang a banner.”

“I am excited to get a head start on learning more about the style of play, the history of the program and what I can do to make the transition easier. Plus, building a greater relationship with the coaching staff.

While Wilcher’s commitment was not only early, but rather out of the blue, his announcement does pave the way for Chapel Hill-related conversations with some of the top recruits in the country in G.G. Jackson, Robert Dillingham and Mackenzie Mgbako.
As for his game, the Roselle Catholic guard is smooth, crafty, bouncy, in summation: everything you – or Davis – would want in a potential point guard. He can knock down shots from deep, loves to create off the dribble and is at his best getting downhill towards the rim. With his commitment, the Tobacco Road rivalry between the Blue Devils and the Heels are all square 1-1 in the 2023 class, following Oak Hill point guard Caleb Foster’s commitment to Duke last month. Mgbako is likely the deciding factor between the pair of blue bloods, but we could be looking at a Duke-UNC battle beyond their two dates in February and March.
