Fantasy Hockey: Jonathan Quick Rosterable In Vegas?

Can you believe the fantasy hockey playoffs are next week? Maybe your league is different but we’re in the stretch run for fantasy either way. As many know, goalies can swing match ups. Pick a guy that gives up a five spot (which seems to happen all the time now) and your week could be ruined. With that in mind, does it make sense to acquire Jonathan Quick for your fantasy stretch run?

The short answer is maybe. I don’t know what your league rules are. How many roster spots do you have? Weigh your pros and cons. Then make the correct decision. I think Quick can be useful but there are still a lot of question marks here.

Remember that it’s a crowded crease in Vegas. Logan Thompson and Laurent Brossoit are both injured. When are they coming back? Things remain unclear on the Brossoit front but head coach Bruce Cassidy indicated that he expects Thompson back before the end of the year. That’s All-Star Logan Thompson to you mam/sir so put some respect on his name. Yeah, I’m talking to you Griffin Crest for calling the Vegas goaltending this year as “mid”. The Golden Knights rank 8th in the NHL in SV% this year (.910). Top ten seems good to me?

The reality is that if Quick doesn’t perform he could be pushed out of the rotation pretty quickly – pun not intended. Vegas also seems to have some confidence in Adin Hill. He’s performed up to par as the Robin Lehner replacement posting a SV% of .914 and record of 16-6-1. Hill may carry the bulk load of starts going forward. If Quick only gets one start a week, is he really worth rostering?

So far so good for Ivan Barbashev in Vegas.

I prefer Quick as a streaming option for fantasy moving forward. Play the matchups and keep an eye on the opponent. If Quick has a start against the the Blue Jackets next Sunday, that’s a match up you’re rolling with. Maybe not so much if he gets a start against Oilers and McDavid. Keep an eye on the waiver wire and the goalie starts. That would be my advice. Not sure it’s enough to roster on 100% basis.
