Dwight Howard declares interest in playing for Sacramento Kings

Dwight Howard is ready for an NBA return. The former DPOY has dominated Taiwan’s T1 League with averages of 23 points and 16 rebounds a game. Howard is still not satisfied after winning MVP honors. He made it known that he is interested in playing for the Sacramento Kings, who were one of the NBA’s pleasant surprises in 2022-2023.

“I’m not retired from the NBA just yet,” Howard told The OBSERVER. “I would love to help the Sacramento Kings contend for a title. Even though I believe their team is pretty much set.”

The last we saw of Howard in the NBA was in 2022 with the Lakers. He was still productive, averaging 6.2 points and 5.9 boards off the bench. It’s clear that he still has more in the tank, even at 37-years-old. You can’t forget about his incredible talent and athleticism.

That helped him not only get drafted No. 1 overall in 2004 but also have one of the scariest primes of any big man. He’s part of a very special list of NBA players who made the jump straight from high school.

From an outside view, Howard could actually do well with the Kings. They didn’t really have a conventional big man this season. The lack of size in part caused their downfall against the Warriors in the first round of the playoffs.

In hindsight, Howard would have matched up very well against Kevon Looney. Having some frontcourt depth for when Domantas Sabonis is on the bench should be at the top of the Kings’ list this summer. As well, Howard is now very clearly a nice guy and a great teammate.

This is not the same player who butted heads with Shaquille O’Neal back in the day.

Dwight Howard’s career is one of the most interesting in recent NBA memory. However, he’s not ready to hang up the sneakers yet. He’s got a return to the NBA in mind, but seemingly only with the Sacramento Kings. The ball is now quite literally in their court.
