Dwayne Haskins
Dwayne Haskins is drawing rave reviews so far in rookie camp (Geoff Burke/USA TODAY Sports)

Dwayne Haskins was drafted by the Washington Redskins with the 15th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. If rookie minicamp is any indication for his future performance, Haskins is going to win the starting job right away. Haskins has been dominating camp and really impressing the coaching staff.

I know, I know, it’s just rookie camp. BUT… those are some big money throws. A lot of pundits questioned Haskins accuracy. Those are some awesome throws. Go re-watch Jared Goff during hard knocks. He didn’t make one that looked like that as a rookie. The Skins have to be encourage with what they are seeing right now.

Jay Gruden is also loving what he’s seeing:

“It’s been a treat,” Gruden said. “He’s made some throws that turn your head without a doubt.”

“Let’s see how far we can push this guy,” Gruden said. “Let’s see if there is a chance he can win the job.”

“With the quarterback, it starts with the basics,” Gruden said. “He’s a guy that didn’t call a lot of plays in the huddle. So we’re talking about breaking the huddle and calling plays in the huddle, and the snap count, getting guys lined up, going through his progressions, his footwork — not only in the passing game but in the running game. There’s a lot thrown at him. It’s a long process, but he’s a bright guy. I was impressed.”

It’s possible that the Redskins are just hyping him up. Maybe he’s missing on some throws. I have no idea, I’m not there. From everything I’ve been reading, Haskins looks like a star in camp. The guy did throw 50 touchdown passes in college so I hope he does pan out. If he continues to shine in the preseason, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Ohio State product starts right away.
