Why is anybody interested in drafting Drake London? He’s a bust waiting to happen. London is way overvalued heading into the 2022 NFL Draft. (Keith Birmingham, Pasadena Star-News/ SCNG)

Drake London Is A Bust, Why Would Anybody Draft Him?

The amount of wide receiver talent entering the NFL is reaching staggering levels. We’re not just getting a couple of guys who can play every year. We’re getting multiple stars year after year. Let’s just all recognize before we enter the 2022 NFL Draft that Drake London sure as hell isn’t that guy.

If there is one wide receiver from this class that should be on bust watch, it’s the USC product. Multiple draft centric platforms have London as WR1 entering the 2022 NFL Draft and it’s entered laughable territory. Not only do I think that London is being overhyped, but you’re almost idiotic if you’re the general manager that drafts him.

Why does nobody ever learn their lesson? Why? This really shouldn’t be that hard. A few years ago, I had to remind everyone this very lesson. There was a guy by the name of JJ Arcega-Whiteside that I knew couldn’t play a lick. I had him marked down as a guaranteed bust.

Draft experts lost their minds at Arcega-Whiteside’s ability to win 50-50 balls at the collegiate level. Something that had zero chance to translate to the next level. Philadelphia took Arcega-Whiteside in the second round ahead of DK Metcalf. The rest is history. All of you were wrong. Trey was right.

Once again we enter a similar scenario. Those dopes over at PFF refuse to learn their lesson. They currently have London as their WR1 and number 11 overall player. The description on London predictably credits him for winning 19 contested catches to led college football. The analytics nerds still don’t get it.

It’s not about winning the 50-50 balls. It’s about getting open. Deebo Samuel gets open. Justin Jefferson gets open. Drake London hopes and prays the guy blanketing him in coverage won’t win the jump ball. Good luck with that in the NFL.

What’s the best case scenario here with London? We already know he’s not fast. He didn’t run a 40 and doesn’t come close to ever looking like the gazelle that is Mike Evans. The production is there after 88 catches for 1,084 yards, and seven touchdown season. He’s also playing in the Pac12. Did anybody see the Pac12 this year? Utah won that conference easy. Utah…

So much of this has everything to do with the other wide receivers on the board. I know I’m getting home runs with both the Ohio State guys. There is no risk. Jameson Williams should be included in that group. Doesn’t it say everything he couldn’t crack the lineup at Ohio State and blew up this past year at Alabama? John Metchie is pretty darn good too.

I haven’t even talked about a George Pickens who remains the glamor prospect if healthy. What about a Jahan Dotson, Skyy Moore, Calvin Austin, or Christian Watson way later in the draft? Why not pick one of them in a trade down? Hell, if I’m going to take a dart throw on a bigger body guy, it’s Treylon Burks all day.

The hype machine is out of control when it comes to Drake London. You can pick him. I won’t. Given his current price range, there is no chance this works out well for the team that drafts him. Good luck.
