DJ Moore Fantasy Football Profile 2022

Offseason moves in the NFL can drastically change a player’s fantasy football success. Since Carolina has traded for former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield, the outlook for DJ Moore has consequently changed. Assuming Mayfield wins the starting job over Sam Darnold, we will see Moore’s numbers explode.

This past season Moore popped off at the beginning of the year. Sam Darnold and the Panthers were playing well, and Moore benefitted with consistent WR1 finishes. However, Carolina’s offense soon took a turn for the worst, especially with the Cam Newton project at the end of the year. Moore finished the season as WR18. Now consider that the 25-year-old had that finish without Christian McCaffrey for the majority of the year and a frustrating Sam Darnold/Cam Newton at QB. The addition of Mayfield, a healthy CMC, and an improved offensive line bodes well for Moore’s 2022 season.

Going off the board as the WR17 according to Sleeper, Moore is a home run pick. Mayfield running the show assures this. In 2021 Darnold ranked near the bottom of the league in deep-ball accuracy, per PFF. Conversely, Mayfield ranks in the top 10 throughout his career. Moore accumulated 1,730 air yards last year, which ranks third behind just Justin Jefferson and Stefon Diggs. Darnold just couldn’t make an accurate enough pass. Not only that, but Moore finished with just four touchdowns. A better offense with the aforementioned Mayfield, CMC, and o-line means more scores and more touchdowns.

Carolina didn’t add any pass-catchers to stray targets away from Moore. Another season finish upwards of 160 targets is well within the realm of possibilities. I expect him to haul in more than 93 of those targets. More receptions, yards, and touchdowns should be expected for Moore in 2022. Therefore, a WR1 finish is something I fully expect.
