Did The Saints Make A Decision About Their Quarterbacks?

The New Orleans Saints have 3 capable quarterbacks. Drew Brees is going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer. Brees also isn’t a spring chicken. Teddy Bridgewater went 6-0 as a starter this year. Then again, do you want to pay him big QB money? Taysom Hill has shown flashes of brilliance. Then again, nobody even knows if he’s a real quarterback yet. What will the Saints do about all 3 of these quarterbacks? All of whom are free agents this offseason.

The early reports suggest that if New Orleans has it their way, Brees will come back… but only as a bridge option to Taysom Hill:

VIA PFT:

“As one source explained it to PFT, the Saints wants Brees back for what would essentially become a transition year, from Brees to Taysom Hill with Hill becoming the starter in 2021. Even if Brees comes back, Hill will be used much more extensively as part of the team’s offense in 2020 — especially in light of some private regret that, if Hill had been utilized just a little bit more in the wild-card loss to the Vikings, the Saints quite likely would have won the game.”

Sounds like Teddy Bridgewater is on the outside looking in. His return to New Orleans seems unlikely. Can’t really complain about it either. Bridgewater is in line to get a decent check this offseason and the Saints only paid a third round pick to acquire him. They will get that right back as a comp pick. Brees could also retire and maybe that means New Orleans will bring back Teddy?

This report suggests the Saints are really all in on Taysom Hill as their next guy. Say what you want, New Orleans has been really smart about Hill’s development. They have found a way to get him on the field and make him productive. Sean Payton’s creativity deserves to be praised. What I didn’t know is if the Saints actually were going to take the next step and make Hill a starter. Then again, Sean Payton did call him Steve Young. Maybe we should have seen this coming.
