After a slow start, Devin White has arrived. He is a star in the making. (Cliff Welch/Pewter Report)

Devin White was my favorite player coming out of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was about as can’t miss as it got. White just checked every box. Speed, power, instincts, make plays on the ball. White was just a monster at LSU. After a little bit of a quiet start to his rookie year, Devin White has finally arrived. This past week against the Jaguars, seven tackles, an interception, and returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown. White finally looks like the guy who was taken with the 5th pick in the draft.

After the game, Devin White talked about some of the exchanges he and Leonard Fournette had. Both of them played together at LSU:

“I was just trying to let him know I’m in the league, I’m a big boy now,” White said of his message to Fournette, per the Tampa Bay Times. “I’m not the same freshman from LSU. My game done rose to another level.”

“It’s my time, I guess,” White said. “I’ve been set back this year, but I never complained, and I also kept my head down and kept working.

“It’s time for me to show out. It’s time for me to show the world what I can do, and it’s time for me to keep building on it.”

It was a bumpy road for White this year. The former LSU linebacker missed 3 games because of injury and was rusty when he returned to the field. White looked like a future star this week. White was great all day. He played well in coverage and led a goal line stand stopping Fournette on more than one occasion.

The Bucs actually have a bright future. If White becomes a defense and gets this defense rolling the Bucs can be pretty good. Say whatever you want about Jameis Winston but he puts up points every week. With Vita Vea clogging up the middle, the Bucs could start to form a respectable defense in the future.
