Dave Portnoy got into it on Twitter over Big East Basketball. Despite the story of the day being Rick Pitino’s move to St. John’s becoming official, there was also a side platter of beef. Elsewhere in the Big East, Ed Cooley switched from Providence to rivals Georgetown. Stadium reporter Jeff Goodman simply thought it was a case of Cooley moving on to bigger and better things. Portnoy, on the other hand, believed other things were at work. The tweet thread below is in chronological order:
Despite not knowing each other, this got HEATED. And personal. Neither Portnoy or Goodman pulled punches when it came to Cooley’s cross-conference move. My whole take here is who’s right? Who are the fans gonna believe? Obviously, on following alone, you must think it’s Portnoy. However, Goodman does have a point here. Cooley stuck around at Providence for a long time, to the point where they were not very good. While the pay bump is important, it’s not the end of the world. Regardless, I’m also with Portnoy on the topic of Providence fans being very upset. There’s clearly some evidence that Cooley may have been considering this for a while. No matter how you slice it, things got ugly.
Another Day In The Life Of Dave
If you think Dave Portnoy is gonna lose sleep over this, you’re crazy. He’s seen just about everything you need to see on Twitter. While writing this, I got even ANOTHER wrinkle in the story. Check it out below:
While this isn’t something worth going ballistic on Twitter, some people just like being right. We all know Portnoy is one of them. This time around, however, he found another sparring partner. It’s safe to say Jeff Goodman is going to be getting a lot of buzz on his Twitter page for the time being.
