Daniel Theis Has Been Traded To The Bulls
Former Boston Celtics Center, Daniel Theis has been traded to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Mo Wagner, per Adrian Wojnarowski via Twitter. It appears Theis will be putting on the Bulls uniform going forward in 2021.
What Is Chicago Getting?
So far in the 2020-21 season, Theis is averaging 9.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on 55.2% shooting through 42 games. Thies’ offensive stats aren’t anything to write home about, but he is known around the league as a player with a defensive skill-set.
At the very least, Theis will be a nice addition to the Bulls bench and can provide some much-needed stability on defense. On the other hand, he will have to compete for minutes with newly-acquired center Nikola Vucevic and 32-year-old veteran Thaddeus Young. But the Bulls shouldn’t expect any more or any less than what Theis gave to Boston. He is nothing more than a defensive role player on an already below-average roster.
What Is Boston Getting?
Who is Mo Wagner? Well, Mo Wagner is essentially just a younger Daniel Theis with less experience on the floor in the NBA. Wagner is a German, six-foot-eleven-inch center that can’t seem to produce anything of value offensively, just like Theis. The only difference between the two is that Theis is shorter, at 6’8″. Wagner is currently averaging 7.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.3 assists on 50.8% shooting through 25 games. However, he is only 23-years-old.
Boston will be looking towards Robert Williams III to fill the void at the center position since Tristan Thompson is currently dealing with an injury. Brad Stevens will have to make do with a smaller lineup which he has had to do frequently since the departure of Al Horford back in 2019.
