Dana White’s Power Slap League Debut Postponed by TBS
On New Year’s Eve, UFC President Dana White was caught on video slapping his wife. Amidst that controversy, his new combat sports promotion, Dana White’s Power Slap League will not debut on the originally planned date of Jan. 11. According to Jeremy Botter, the show is no longer listed on internal programming schedules and the show’s ad spots have been dropped.
Dana White’s Power Slap League was announced in October of 2022 and was set to debut on TBS next week. That will no longer happen.
While the initial report from Potter suggested that the show is in danger of being terminated, that has not come to fruition. It is being reported the show will remain on TBS.
According to Andrew Marchand of New York Post Sports, TBS has said the program will still air on its network, but the debut date has been pushed back a week. The new debut date is now Jan. 18.
At this time, TBS has not stated the reason for the delay. It is unclear if it is because of White’s New Year’s Eve incident.
White has received any official punishment after his New Year’s Eve domestic violence incident. The UFC’s parent company, Endeavor, has yet to punish White. In addition, TBS and the UFC’s broadcast partner, ESPN, have not commented either.
At the end of the day, I do not think anyone was salivating to watch “Power Slap.” I think the world will be okay without a cash-grab sport that makes two dudes slap each other without any defense. If you want to watch violence you can always watch another sport called MMA.
In place of “Power Slap” TBS will be airing Young Sheldon re-runs on Jan. 11.
