Dana White Reveals Jon Gruden Didn’t Want Tom Brady and Gronk In 2020

Another day, another clusterf**k for the Las Vegas Raiders. It seems the Raiders are always in the news and the public’s general consensus is a negative one. Add last night’s latest negative storyline to the list. Did the news come from an NFL media person or someone that works in the NFL? No, instead via Dana White, the president of the UFC, a completely different organization.

During UFC 278, White was talking to the Gronkowski family, most notably 11-year NFL veteran and four-time Super Bowl champion, Rob. White claims he orchestrated a deal for Tom Brady and Gronk to come to the Las Vegas Raiders back in 2020, but at the last minute, then-head coach Jon Gruden blew up the entire deal. Here’s the video below via Twitter:

As mentioned, Gronk confirmed the events White described. Now, here’s the deal, I ride hard for the Raiders, and I’ve made questionable decisions in times past to defend them despite egregious mistakes. No one can question my loyalty to this team. But objectively, this was actually a smart move by Gruden, and let me explain why before you go nuts on me.

Go look at the Raiders roster in 2020 compared to the Bucs roster in 2020. There’s just no way that Brady and Gronk make this Raiders team a Super Bowl contender. That Buccaneers squad had a better offense and defense than the Raiders no doubt. Gruden would have been banking on a then-43-year-old Brady and often injured Gronk having enough in the tank while the Raiders bolstered their roster to win a Super Bowl. The Bucs in 2020 were STACKED, and Brady didn’t have to play amazing every game to win.

Still, this is one of the biggest what-ifs in history now because of White. It doesn’t age well considering that Tampa Bay did win the Super Bowl in 2020 and the Raiders didn’t even make the playoffs. However, it was the right decision by Gruden. The Raiders weren’t ready to contend in 2020. Remember that Gruden signed on for a 10-year commitment, he was banking on long-term success rather than grasping at straws for short-term triumphs. Despite Gruden not being with the Raiders for obvious reasons, the Raiders are now on the cusp of contending in the playoffs for what seems like the first time in forever.

Maybe Gruden asked Brady if it was a fumble, and Gruden didn’t like his answer. Who knows?
