Dana White Calls For Three UFC Veterans To Retire After UFC 310

At UFC 310, multiple UFC veterans faced significant struggles before suffering finish losses. The trio of fighters includes Anthony Smith, Chris Weidman, and Clay Guida. UFC CEO Dana White called for all three fighters to retire from MMA.

White commented about the future of each fighter in the UFC 310 post-fight press conference.

They should all retire tonight,” White said when asked about the three fighters’ UFC futures.

White did not expand on his reasoning for each fighter needing to hang up the gloves; however, that is how he typically approaches questions of UFC veterans walking away from the sport.

Smith appears to be the most likely to retire out of the trio. In his octagon interview, Smith was emotional about fighting without his coach Scott Morten. The light heavyweight did not commit to retirement, but he took his gloves off and debated the idea.

If Smith, 36, retires from MMA. He will walk away with a 37-21 professional record and a 13-11 UFC record. In his retirement, he will stay around the fight game as he currently works as an analyst for the UFC.

Weidman, 40, suffered a second-round knockout loss to Eryk Anders at UFC 310. The loss makes him 1-2 since returning from breaking his leg against Uriah Hall in 2021.

This is not the first time White has called for Weidman to retire. The UFC CEO asked Weidman to retire after his loss at UFC 296.

Guida, 43, was out-grappled and submitted by Chase Hooper at UFC 310. The fight was a poor showing for the veteran. That has been a trend in recent years. Since 2018, Guida has gone 4-8 in the octagon.

It is hard to imagine Smith, Weidman, and Guida will all walk away from the sport after UFC 310. It is well-known that UFC veterans tend to hang around longer than they should. That said, White is correct. All three fighters need to call it a career.
