Damar Hamlin Needs Your Prayers

Everyone please pray for Damar Hamlin. The Bills safety has been down on the field for the better part of 15 minutes after tackling a Bengals player. The latest report says that he is on a stretcher and being put onto an ambulance that drove on the field. He was also administered CPR on the field. This situation is absolutely unheard of both in the NFL and sports as a whole. Out of respect for Hamlin and the teams I will not be showing the clip of the incident.

The fact that CPR was used is incredibly scary. No one should ever have to be given oxygen and taken on an ambulance during a game. This is sadly a life or death situation given all of the information we know. Once again, everyone keep Damar Hamlin in your thoughts and prayers.

UPDATE: The game has been temporarily suspended, per the game’s officials. Players were opening crying on the field and many ESPN cameras showed players completely traumatized and shaken up. ESPN took two straight TV timeouts as well as multiple cuts back into the studio with Adam Schefter and Booger MacFarlane. There is a very real chance that the game is postponed. Bengals and Bills players united around Hamlin in the middle of the field. Here is a tweet with more information:

Past Examples

Unfortunately, one of the first examples that can come to mind with traumatic injuries like these is Tua Tagovailoa. Sadly, Cincinnati was also the site of Tagovailoa’s collapse and medical episode. There is a sad connection between Cincinnati and scary injuries. Furthermore, Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier was paralyzed following a head-first tackle during a Monday Night Football game in 2017. Once again, the world is praying for Damar Hamlin.

He has a family. He is a son to parents. A brother, cousin, nephew, and grandson. The game means nothing now. Truly, the score and playoffs do not matter. In conclusion, please remember his name. This is one of the scariest moments in recent sports and overall history. All in all, pray for Damar Hamlin. Please.

UPDATE AS OF 10 PM Eastern: The NFL has announced that the game has been officially suspended and will not be played tonight. The league will figure out at a later time what the schedule looks like, but we are all hoping for updates on Damar Hamlin. Quite a change from the officials giving the teams five minutes to ready up after the ambulance left the field. Here is the official NFL statement:

First and foremost, pray for Damar Hamlin.

11:30 PM EASTERN UPDATE

Sadly, little information has become available on Damar Hamlin. The latest piece of concrete info is per his close friend and marketing agent Jordan Rooney. At this point, anything is better than nothing so below is his tweet:

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network also weighed in on the silence surrounding Hamlin. He received a statement from Hamlin’s agent Ira Turner:

Lastly, an update will be provided tomorrow morning once more information becomes available. Please keep Damar Hamlin in your thoughts and prayers this evening.

January 3rd Morning Update

The Bills put out a statement just before 2 AM on Tuesday morning. They confirmed that Damar suffered a cardiac arrest on the field and that his heartbeat was recovered. He is still in critical condition at the UC Hospital and has since been sedated as doctors continue to run tests. For those interested, here is the full statement:

Furthermore, think about the Hamlin family. His mother went from her seats in the stadium all the way to the ambulance so that she could be with her son. In any event, please pray for Damar and his family.
