It’s time to talk Cowboys. When it comes to Dallas, this is a franchise that has seemed like it’s been stuck in the middle. The Cowboys are undergoing a new change which is mostly by replacing Mike McCarthy with Jason Garrett. We’re going to find out just how great McCarthy is. Let’s take a look at the actual roster and what storylines we should look for when it comes to the Cowboys 2020 Training camp preview.
3 Position Battles To Watch:
Center: Joe Looney vs Tyler Biadasz
One of the biggest offseason departures in Dallas is Travis Frederick. The former first round pick from Wisconsin retired this offseason. Funny enough, Dallas drafted Tyler Biadsz from Wisconsin this year. The Remington Award winner has a chance to win the job right away but Joe Looney is no slouch and has done a great job in the past.
Fullback: Jamize Olawale vs Sewo Olonilua
I had to pick this one. It’s battle of the fullbacks. Jamize Olawale has been around the block but is really good at what he does. Undrafted Sewo Olonilua comes in to compete. Olonilua was a running back at TCU who is converting to fullback. Olonilua had solid production at TCU and may be useful in short yardage. So who’s blocking for Zeke?
Kicker: Greg Zuerlein vs Kai Forbath
Kickers are people too. In this instance, there’s real competition here. While Dallas paid Zuerlein a pretty penny, Forbath was money for Dallas last year. Forbath did not miss going a perfect 11 for 11. Dallas hired John Fassell from the Rams so Zuerlein probably has a leg up.
Ready To Breakout: Michael Gallup
Michael Gallup is just sort of laying in the weeds. A Mike McCarthy offense has supported 3 receivers in the past. Whether it be Greg Jennings, Donald Driver, and Jordy Nelson or Randall Cobb, James Jones, and Jordy; 3 wide receivers worked in Green Bay. I just love the talent here. Gallup is a great route runner and now more than ever, teams aren’t paying attention.
Rookie To Watch: Trevon Diggs
You want to talk about important, this is it. Dallas was unable to retain Byron Jones in free agency. Trevon Diggs has to come right in and play well. The good news is Chidobe Awuize and Anthony Brown are still on the roster. I think Diggs will be just fine in Dallas.
Fantasy Sleeper: Blake Jarwin
Dallas believes in Blake Jarwin. If they didn’t, Dallas wouldn’t have given him $24 million this offseason based on basically zero production. Jason Witten is no longer on the roster. It’s time for Jarwin to shine.
