Cowboys Planning Bigger Role For Tony Pollard?
Last week I released my Don’t Eat the Cheese post for the running backs in 2022. Ezekiel Elliott made the list this year for one primary reason… Tony Pollard is just the better football player at this point. IF you take Zeke ahead of Pollard in fantasy, you know in your heart you passed on the better football player. Well, things just got interesting.
It turns out the Cowboys are preparing to give the former Memphis product a larger role in the offense. Running back, wide receiver, you name it, Pollard will do it.
VIA Clarence E. Hill, Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram:
“I’m open to anything just being on the field, being able to make the most of my opportunities,” Pollard said, via Hill. “If I have to line up in the slot a little more, whatever it takes, I’m ready to do it. . . . You have to make a guy or two miss and I’m off to the races.”
The bottom line is, at this stage the only thing that Zeke is better than Pollard at is pass blocking. If Pollard wants to line up as the slot while Zeke plays fullback on third down, so be it. Pollard averaged 5.5 yards per carry last year. Maybe, just maybe, he should have gotten more than 130 carries a year ago compared to the 237 Zeke got. Changes are coming. It just remains to be seen how drastic the new change will be.
After the departure of Amari Cooper this offseason, Dallas will need all the help they can get on the offensive side of the ball. Time will tell if lightning rod Pollard can stay effective with more of a burden on his shoulders.
