George Springer has been one of the best players on the Houston Astros since 2017. Springer’s bat and defense are stellar at a premium position in Center Field. Not to mention that Carlos Correra is also a free agent, and the Astros likely aren’t paying both of them. Springer would instantly make any lineup significantly better. Who would be in the market for a top-tier outfielder?
Who Are George Springer’s Potential Suitors?
Springer will not have a shortage of suitors. Teams that could badly use his abilities include the Mets, Cardinals, and A’s, to name a few. However, the Mets seem to be the perfect place and at the right time for Springer. Steve Cohen is going to look to show off that beautiful money. And who better to spend on than one of baseball’s top outfielders.
George Springer May Return Home
Springer hailing from Connecticut would return to the tri-state area and be closer to home if you believe in the whole return home sort of thing. Should Springer come to New York, it will be with the Mets and not the Yankees. The reason being the Yankees are far too right-handed. And they currently have a centerfielder that is locked up long term, in Aaron Hicks.
The Mets make the most sense for Springer, should he leave Houston, as they are under new ownership in Steve Cohen. And with a good core in Pete Alonso, Jeff McNeil, and Jacob DeGrom. Springer would make this team world’s better. Yes, the Mets have a laundry list of problems besides centerfield, one of them being that abomination of a bullpen. However, it is a great start to grab Springer and start to turn around early.
It is interesting to see how this MLB free-agent market turns out. With the financial situation the whole country is in right now, will Springer get the money he deserves? Nevertheless, Springer will get a big-money deal that’s a given. Teams won’t penny-pinch when it comes to an elite player that seems to always shine in the playoffs.
