College Football: Bets Picks, Underdogs for Week 7
Week six is in the books, and my picks did not do great. Florida turned the ball over late to grant Texas A&M the outright win, and Tennessee choked away the chance to prevent Georgia from covering. This week, we have more Power-5 conference picks, all of which I am a bit more confident. Even with some SEC schools receiving some positive COVID tests, games will still be played. Florida vs. LSU is postponed, but other noteworthy games remain on the schedule for Saturday. Without further ado, let’s get to the picks.
Alabama (-4.5) vs. Georgia
In the week’s best game, the number three ranked Bulldogs take on the second-ranked Crimson Tide. Both teams are undefeated and looking to become the best team in the SEC. With the line being Alabama -4.0, I think this is a virtual lock for the Crimson Tide. Georgia’s secondary has been incredible to start the season, but expecting them to stop Alabama’s offense consistently is too difficult of a task. Najee Harris has been one of the best runners in football this year, and Mac Jones has impressed under center.
Additionally, Georgia’s offense is not in peak form yet. Their offensive line has been solid, but I am still not sold on their quarterback play. I picked against them last week, and I will do it again this week. The Tide will continue rolling and cover versus Georgia.
West Virginia (-21.0) vs. Kansas
Kansas head coach Les Miles will not be on the sidelines on Saturday, as he is still under COVID protocol. This does not change my mentality for this game in the slightest. Kansas has been horrible this season. Pooka Williams cannot get anything going on the ground, and he is the only weapon that team has. Meanwhile, Jarret Doege and the Mountaineers haven’t been that bad so far. With Kansas bringing virtually no pass rush, Doege should have more time in the pocket, translating to a big day in the air. West Virginia’s defense held Baylor to just two regulation scores last week, so expect a similar performance. Give me West Virginia winning big in this one.
South Carolina (+3.0) vs. Auburn
For my upset pick of the week, I’m going with the team with some of my favorite defensive prospects. I think Jaycee Horn is a top cornerback in the country, and you cannot convince me otherwise. His tape was the most fun tape I watched all summer. On the defensive line, edge rusher Kingsley Enagbare has had a dominant start to the season. If you don’t believe me that he was “my guy” coming into the season, please check my Twitter.
Auburn has struggled offensively to start the season, with Bo Nix playing very inconsistent. Expect these struggles to continue against one of the best defenses in the SEC. Also, South Carolina has gotten their passing game going, with Shi Smith breaking out to start the season. This game should go down to the wire, but I think South Carolina is in a great position to upset the Auburn Tigers.
