Clemson Star QB D.J. Uiagalelei Signs NIL Deal With Dr. Pepper
Clemson star quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei has signed an NIL deal with Dr. Pepper, as first reported by Forbes. The sophomore Tiger also signed a deal with southern fast food chicken chain Bojangles earlier this summer.
Uiagalelei has now inked his second NIL deal and is set to be featured in Dr. Pepper’s “Fansville” commericals. Always entertaining, and with a tad bit of cringe, it will be interesting to see how the popular soda brand uses the Clemson quarterback in their ads.
When asked by Forbes for the reasoning behind his deal with Dr. Pepper, Uiagalelei had this to say:
“I want to do stuff that’s relatable to me. I’ve loved Dr. Pepper my whole life, so it’s a no-brainer. I knew I would love to do it.”VIA Forbes/forbes.com
It also appears that the 20-year-old is eager to be included in the popular commercial series, saying this to Forbes’ Kristi Dosh:
“I think it’s funny. I think it’s entertaining, I love all the new commercials they do every week for it, so I’m super excited to be on it.”VIA Forbes/forbes.com
The deal is the first of its kind and one has to wonder what kind of effect it has on the relationship between college athletes and national brands for the future. For now though, Uiagalelei is cashing in on his brand and gearing up for a new season of college football in Death Valley.
