Class of ’23 Five-Star Caleb Foster Commits to Duke
Five-star junior Caleb Foster has committed to Duke, as first reported by SportsCenter and ESPN’s Paul Biancardi. Foster is the first class of 2023 commit for head coach-in-waiting Jon Scheyer. He chose the Blue Devils over offers from Louisville, Virginia, Tennessee and Stanford, among others.
The Charlotte, NC native has seen a significant rise in stock this offseason with Team Curry, an Under Armour travel circuit team. He has a great shooting stroke and possesses an uncanny ability to hit open and contested jumpers from anywhere on the court. While he does not possess jaw-dropping athleticism, he does have a certain smoothness to his offensive game. He will be suiting up once again for national prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy this season.
Foster was prioritized as the leading floor general candidate by Scheyer and his staff. His introduction to Durham should be immediate, with current point guard Jeremy Roach likely leaving the program before Foster’s arrival on campus in the fall of 2023. The only other point guard that projects to be on the 2023-24 roster is current freshman Jaylen Blakes.
According to On3 Recruits’ Joe Tipton, Duke was Foster’s dream school. Scheyer will look to continue his early momentum in the 2023 cycle as he sets his sights on Mackenzie Mgbako, G.G. Jackson, J.J. Taylor and potentially even Bronny James.
