Chris Godwin Didn’t Want To Give Up Number 12 To Tom Brady
Is it all sunshine and rainbows with Tom Brady coming to Tampa Bay? Well, maybe not. Brady wasn’t going to play for any other number except for 12. It’s just part of his brand at this point. Chris Godwin already number 12 before Tom Brady arrived. It turns out, Godwin didn’t want to give up his number.
“I’ve been (wearing No. 12) since high school and it means a lot to me,” Godwin told “The Checkdown” during a Twitter live stream Wednesday. “At first it bothered me a little bit; it was kind of getting at me because it’s part of my identity. But when the GOAT comes calling you kind of concede to him.”
“Hopefully I can get a ring or two or three out of that,” Godwin added. “I was more than happy to do it. I have a new persona for me, 1-4. We’re going to move forward and make something special with it.”
I’m just going to speak on my behalf. If I’m Chris Godwin, I say hell no. We rock with Jameis over Brady if given the choice. Imagine if Godwin not being willing to give up his number being the reason the Bucs don’t get Brady. Let’s also be honest, at this stage, Godwin is the better player and the guy you would take moving forward today.
Not saying this will lead to turmoil but I find it interesting that Godwin spoke out about this. Imagine what’s going to happen when the ship sinks on this Brady experiment? Will Godwin request his number back in Week 9? Nothing would be better than Tampa starting the season 1-5 and having this turn into a nightmare.
