The Kansas City Chiefs will not allow All-Pro safety Eric Berry to leave anytime soon. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Berry has re-signed with the Chiefs on a new contract extension that will keep him in Kansas City for at least 6 more years.

The deal makes Berry the highest paid safety ever which was previously held by Tyrann Mathieu. He recently said he would not play under the tag for a 2nd year in a row after getting tagged in 2016. Now the team can franchise tag defensive tackle Dontari Poe. That move would cost the Chiefs about $13.5 million to franchise Poe. The Chiefs appear to be in some cap trouble after re-signing Eric Berry. For more on the rest of the KC Chiefs offseason click here.

Berry ranked as the 8th best safety in 2016 according to Pro Football Focus. He recorded 4 interceptions this past season. His comeback from Cancer in 2014 makes Berry such an inspirational story for NFL fans everywhere.
