Danny Ainge has made a trade deadline splash? The Boston Celtics have acquired Magic shooting guard Evan Fournier for two second round picks. Fournier will likely slot into the trade exception the Celtics acquired when they lost Gordon Hayward to Charlotte.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was the first to report the news:

Fournier, 27, has been a vital part of the Magic’s success in recent years. He’s proven he’s one of the most underrated players in the NBA. Fournier is averaging 19.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on the season. He’s also a sharp shooter from deep shooting close to 39% from 3.

On the surface, the acquisition cost seems low. Two second round picks for a player of this caliber seems like a steal. However, Fournier is scheduled to hit free agency after the season which likely limited his trade value. The French guard is earning $17 million for this season.

The Magic are clearly in sell mode. Center Nikola Vucevic was already shipped to Chicago. It’s only a matter of time before Aaron Gordon gets sent packing as well. Orlando is tearing this puppy down to the studs. It feels like anybody on the roster is pretty much available for the right price.

Will Fournier push the Celtics back into contention? Time will tell. Given Fournier’s shooting prowess, he feels like someone that will fit on the floor without a hitch.
